Abduction of American Citizen Thomas Fox

December 1, 2005

  • The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad has confirmed that American Citizen Thomas Fox is one of four humanitarian workers abducted in Baghdad on Saturday, November 26.

  • The Christian Peacemaker Teams organization has posted a statement identifying the four abductees.

  • U.S. officials in Baghdad and Consular officials in Washington are working to provide all possible assistance to family members of Mr. Fox.

  • We have seen the videotape of Mr. Fox and the other hostages. We strongly condemn the actions of those individuals who are holding Mr. Fox and the other humanitarian workers.

  • We call for their immediate and unconditional release, as we call for the release of all hostages in Iraq.

  • The United States government does not make concessions with hostage takers.

  • Embassy officials are working closely with Iraqi officials and officials from other Missions whose citizens are being held, to locate and secure the release of Mr. Fox.

  • Out of consideration for Mr. Fox’s family, we will not release further information on him or the investigation surrounding his abduction.
