“On behalf of the US Mission and Multi-National Force-Iraq, we condemn the murder of Lt. Gen al-Hashimi. The terrorists who carried out this attack are the enemies of the Iraqi people, desperate to derail the progress Iraq is making toward security and stability.
Lt. Gen al-Hashimi served his country as a soldier in the Iraqi Army and as chief of staff to the Ministry of Defense. He worked as a liaison officer between the Ministry of Defense and the Council of Ministers in order to promote Iraqi security and stability.
We pledge to work with and support the Government of Iraq and Iraqi Security Forces to capture and prosecute these murderers with the swiftest justice afforded under the Iraqi law. This heinous act will not stop the Iraqi Security Forces from continuing their efforts to combat terrorism and build a free and peaceful Iraq.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Vice President al-Hashimi, the al-Hashimi family, to Lt. Gen al-Hashimi’s colleagues in the Ministry of Defense, and to the Iraqi people.
We reaffirm our support and commitment to the Government of Iraq, the Iraqi Security Forces, and the Iraqi people in their quest to achieve a peaceful future.”
