Nonimmigrant Visas
General Information About Nonimmigrant Visas
Types of Visas Processed in Baghdad
The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad is authorized to accept applications for only a limited number of visa categories:
- A Visas for Diplomats and Government Officials traveling on official business for the Government of Iraq
- G Visas for Employees and Representatives to International Organizations
- J Visas for international exchange programs and F visas for students.
- B1 Business Visas that are referred to the Consular Section by other United States Government entities.
At this time, the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad cannot process other visa categories, including B1/B2 Visa applications for general business and tourism.
Applicants who require additional services can apply for visas at any U.S. Embassy or Consulate outside Iraq. Please visit the web site for the U.S. Embassy in Amman, Jordan, or at any other Embassy or Consulate in the world.
Time Required to Process Application before Travel
Most visa applications require special administrative processing that is performed in Washington. In order to complete all administrative processing before the estimated departure date, we request that applications be submitted at least
- 30 days prior to the intended travel date for A and G visas
- 90 days prior to the intended travel date for all other visa categories
Visa issuance cannot be guaranteed by a certain date. Periodically, administrative processing is significantly longer than 30 or 90 days, especially during the busy summer travel season. Even if you have had a visa to the U.S. before, please apply as far in advance as possible.
