Passback information
It is difficult for some Iraqis to access the International Zone without assistance. To make it easier for Iraqi Student and Exchange Visitor applicants to retrieve their passports after their visa is printed, we have set up a passback program with DHL.
All student visa and exchange visitor visa applicants who do not have regular access to the International Zone must follow the steps below before your appointment so that your passport can be returned to you after your visa is printed.
1. Visit your nearest DHL office and pre-pay for a shipment from the Presidential Palace in the International Zone back to the nearest DHL office. Some Baghdad residents may be able to ship their passport directly to their home. Inquire at your local DHL office (locations are listed below)
2. Bring your receipt, DHL waybill and mailing envelope with you to your interview.
3. The Consular officer will take your DHL envelope and waybill as a part of your application package. When you apply, your passport will be left at the Consular Section.
4. When your visa is printed (clearances take approximately 90 days from the date of the interview) the Consular officer will place your passport with the visa inside the DHL envelope, and pass it to DHL. DHL will then ship the passport back to the DHL location you specified.
5. The Consular officer will email you that your passport has been shipped.
6. When the package arrives at the DHL office nearest you, pick up your passport.
If you arrive at the Consular section for your appointment and do not have a pre-paid DHL waybill, you will not be interviewed as there will be no way to return your passport to you.
Please save your receipt, and provide only the waybill to the Consular officer. If your visa is not issued, you can return to DHL with your receipt for a refund of your shipping fees.
