By U.S. Embassy Baghdad on the al-Qaeda Bombing in Baghdad
The U.S Embassy in Baghdad strongly condemns yesterday's deadly al-Qaeda bombing in the Karrada district of Baghdad.
Those killed and wounded in the barbaric attack on a shopping area were innocent citizens attempting to live side-by-side with one another in the new Iraq. Such indiscriminate mass violence demonstrates that al-Qaeda in Iraq will spare no effort, however brutal, to attempt to re-ignite sectarian strife in Iraq.
Yesterday’s tragic attack further demonstrates the importance of national unity and resolve in countering these terrorists. We will continue to work closely with the Government of Iraq and its security forces to defeat al-Qaeda in Iraq.
