REO Al-Hillah
Welcome To Regional U.S. Embassy Office in Al-Hillah
The Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) established a Regional Headquarters in Al-Hillah in May 2003, which was converted to a Regional Embassy Office (REO) on June 28, 2004. The existing hotel complex on the site has been developed to include several new facilities.
REO Al-Hillah serves as the administrative support platform for four Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRTs) covering the South Central provinces of Babil, Najaf, Karbala and Diwaniyah. PRT members include DOS and USAID direct hire and contract staff, specialists in agriculture and the rule of law, Iraqi-American subject matter experts and advisors, and active and reserve duty Civil Affairs and Corps of Engineers personnel (USACE). Together with USAID program implementers and in partnership with the U.S. Military, the PRTs engage provincial-level officials and civil society organizations to strengthen governance and transparency, foster economic development and improve delivery of basic services.
The REO’s mandated mission includes responsibility not only for operational control of REO day-to-day operations, but for providing administrative and logistical support for the four PRTs, seven USG agencies and organizations, 13 different contracting firms, and a military contingent which is embedded with the REO.
