Training for Student Advisors

With many Iraqi students interested in studying in the United States, the U.S. Embassy in Iraq will provide training workshops for Iraqi university faculty and others who want to learn how to advise these students. The training sessions will be five days long and will take place in August in Baghdad and October in Erbil. The training sessions will describe the higher education system in the U.S., how to select the right schools and academic program, costs of study, applications, admissions, testing and visa requirements.  Accommodations will be provided for participants who cannot travel from home each day.

Is this training for you?

  • Do you have three or more years of experience as a university faculty member or administrator?
  • Are you interested and motivated to advise Iraqi students on undergraduate or graduate study in the U.S.?
  • Are you willing to share your new experience and information with students and other faculty?
  • Are your English language skills strong enough to read and understand information about U.S. higher education programs on the Internet?

If you have questions, please write to FulbrightIraq@state.gov

Two highly successful workshops were held in Erbil (in September, 2009) and Baghdad (October, 2009).

Future workshops will be scheduled in late January 2010.  Interested candidates encouraged to apply.
